Dr. Beryl Bachus-Keith
Dr. Beryl Bachus-Keith is a board certified pediatrician providing medical services for over 35 years prior
to her retirement. She was the Medical Director at HopeHealth, Inc., serving the health care needs of the
Pee Dee Region, Williamsburg and Clarendon counties in South Carolina. She is an honor’s graduate of
Tulane University in New Orleans where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree and graduated in the
top of her class from Tulane School of Medicine. She is a Diplomat of the American Academy of
Pediatrics. Dr. Bachus-Keith practiced pediatrics in New Orleans for 9 years in a private practice setting
and in the New Orleans Public Health Centers, in addition to providing services for the first school-based
health clinic in the city. She began a pediatric practice in South Carolina in 1993 at Black River Healthcare
and became the first pediatrician in Clarendon County.
Dr. Bachus-Keith served as Chief of Pediatrics at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning, SC for 21
years and Chief Medical Officer at Black River Healthcare for 19 years. She has recruited physicians and
other health care professionals to medically underserved communities, providing health care with equal
access for all. Dr. Bachus-Keith has been actively involved in the community and has served on the
Cypress Foundation Board of Directors, Clarendon Board of Habitat for Humanity, Advisory Board for
Central Carolina Technical College, Clinical Advisory Board for the Clarendon District I School’s Wellness
Program, Foundation Board of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities as well
as the Wateree Migrant Head Start Wellness Advisory Board. She served as the Clarendon Memorial
Hospital’s Vice Chief of Staff for 4 years and Chief of Staff for 8 years. Dr. Bachus-Keith previously
reviewed grants for the US Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA) in Washington, DC. She
served on the South Carolina Office of Rural Health Executive Board of Directors and currently serves on
the Board of Directors for the Synovus Bank in Manning, SC where she has served as board chairman for
two terms. She served as vice chairman of the Clarendon Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and was
a member of The Clarendon Hospital District Board of Trustees-Long Term Care Division.
Dr. Bachus-Keith has received numerous awards and was one of 38 leaders from throughout the South
Carolina Midlands selected to participate in the 8′ Midlands Class of the Riley Institute at Furman’s
Diversity Leaders Initiative in 2015. She was previously recognized by the South Carolina Rural Health
Association as the “Rural Health Practitioner of the Year” and was honored as the “South Carolina
Physician of the Year” by DHEC. She received the Manning Times Readers Choice Award, chosen by the
citizens, as the “Best Physician” in Clarendon County for numerous years. In years past, Dr. Bachus-Keith
wrote a monthly health column in the Clarendon Citizen and Manning Times newspapers entitled, “Ask a
Doc” in an effort to provide medical information to the community while advocating preventive health
care.
Her greatest joy, sense of pride and accomplishment has been derived from being the mother of two
awesome children and Mimi to three beautiful grandchildren.
